Lexus tops the UK J.D. Power Survey for the tenth year running

We’re a predictable lot in the UK – or Lexus owners are a particularly smug lot – so we get the same result every year for the last decade. Lexus comes out on top.

We have our own theory on why Lexus keeps topping the UK J.D. Power survey, so we should perhaps discount their inevitable win and look at what goes on beyond first place.

The top two places overall stay the same as 2009 – Lexus followed by Honda – but coming in at third is Jaguar – who came top of the last US J.D. Power Survey – a jump of three places since last year, beating Mercedes, Audi and BMW. Not only that, but the Jaguar XF won best Executive/Luxury car and came second overall as the most satisfying car to own – splitting the Lexus RX and Lexus IS. Which should raise a smile or two at Gaydon

But also raising a smile or two in the very same building will be Land Rover’s performance. Long criticised for lagging behind Jaguar in the reliability stakes, Land Rover has performed well, moving from 18th place last year – and just below average – to 14th and above average. Not good enough – that will probably have to wait until the all-new Land Rovers start to roll out in 2012 – but enough to show that the 2010MY cars are a cut above what came before.

Chevrolet, Fiat and Suzuki manage to prop up the bottom of the 2010 Survey, almost where we were in 2009 but Suzuki – who were not in the bottom threee last year – have entered the relegation zone to replace Chrysler.

In terms of top models for the year we see the following winners:

These cars may spawn the happiest owners, although they’re not necessarily the best in their sector. Still, a guide to buying. No more.
