Lincoln MKZ concept

Wed, 18 Jan 2012

The Lincoln MKZ concept previews not only the 2012 production MKZ model, but also Lincoln's future design direction. Lincoln Design Director, Max Wolff explains: “Our movement as a brand is toward something we call elegant simplicity. It’s something warmer and more restrained, which is moving away from complex designs and traditional luxury.” This is reflected in the Cognac hue of the show car.

The DRG is an evolution of Lincoln's iconic waterfall grille, now with the orientation of the slats turned through 90-degrees, while the rear uses thin LED lighting is used to create the familiar full-width tail lamp graphic. Surfacing appears more taut and sheer.

The biggest change is in side profile, where the traditional three-box silhouette has transformed into a fastback, with little transition from roof to rear deck.

The IP continues the same dramatic sweep as the front graphic. The four-seat cabin is trimmed in responsibly-harvested poplar wood and aluminium as well as champagne-colored leather featuring perforations intended to evoke the bubbles created by said French luxury.
