Fri, 19 Feb 2010

Local Motors has announced the winners of the Texas Motor competition, the independent car company's 19th competition. Tasked with designing a vehicle that was a ready-made solution for sportsmen in the great state of Texas, entrants were asked to submit their creations via the Local Motors website.

The winning design, selected by members of the Local Motors community, was created by Acatrinei Lucian Nicolae. His 'LM Modula' concept is similar to a traditional truck, but also features an innovative solution to meet the needs of hunters. The concept's traditional pickup truck bed can be used for carrying cargo, but can also accommodate an adaptable ‘hunting module' that can be attached and used as a built-in bunker for all hunting activities. The interior includes a built-in rifle drawer, cold storage and sufficient space to stand.

The second place award was won by Oleg Bazoev for his 'LM T-RX' concept. The nimble but aggressive machine was built to take on the most challenging hunts and features a built-in gun stand, gun drawer and multiple utility cases.

Mayeul Walser's 'Dear Deer' concept placed third overall, but received recognition for being the most creative. Small in scale but full of innovative elements, the concept includes a multi-functional suspending perch that can be used to hoists hunters up five- to six feet over the vehicle for a clearer line of site. It is powered by a hybrid electric-gasoline engine, incorporated to allow the vehicle to be driven without engine rumble associated with conventional powerplants.
