MINI Cargo – the Mini Van is back

MINI Cargo Van - based on the MINI Clubman (pictured)

BMW are set to revive the Mini Van, with a MINI Clubman based MINI Cargo debuting at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

We’ve got the regular MINI and the MINI Clubman. We’ve got the MINI Coupe and the MINI Roadster. We’ve even got the overgrown MINI Countryman SUV. So what’s missing? A MINI Van, of course. But BMW has that covered, with the new MINI Cargo.

Once the staple of small businesses everywhere – and some big ones like the AA – the Mini Van disappeared from our car landscape back in 1982. But in its quest to make the MINI fit every niche there is, BMW is reviving the Mini Van with a new Clubman-based MINI Cargo.

Think in terms of a Clubman with the back windows removed and replaced by sheet metal, and you’re just about there. Remove the seats and you’ve got a great little delivery vehicle for urban businesses. Whether BMW will go as far as removing the trademark grill and replacing it with a pressed metal one with holes in like the original Mini Van, we don’t know.

But however utilitarian – or not – the Cargo turns out to be, it looks like the MINI Cargo will debut at Geneva in the Spring.

All that’s left to come is the MINI MPV.
