Mercedes ML 63 AMG (2012) tease

Back in June we had the debut of the 2012 Mercedes ML, but as is the norm for new car reveals from Mercedes the M Class we saw didn’t include a suitably bonkers ML 63. That was for later. And now it is later and the 2012 Mercedes ML 63 AMG is going to bow in at the L.A. Motor Show this month.

Ahead of the reveal of the ML 63, Mercedes has kicked off the interest by revealing the first official teaser photo of the new ML63 on their Facebook page this morning.

What we see from the usual ‘detail’ teaser shot is an ML on butch pills. The AMG gets much bigger air intakes to swallow up enough fresh air to feed the 5.5 litre V8 and there’s a set of LED running lights hiked up to the top of the enlarged vents at each side of the front bumper.

It’s not too difficult to imagine the rest of the package; bigger alloys housing a set of upgraded brakes, a bigger back bumper with a diffuser dropped in, perhaps some stainless steel skid plates and general all-round butch-ness.

But what really matters is what’s going under the bonnet. That will be the new twin turbo 5.5 litre V8 which, we expect, will have similar outputs to the same engine fitted in the new CLS AMG.

That means around 525bhp and 516lb/ft of torque in standard tune and 557bhp and 590lb/ft of torque if Mercedes chooses to give the ML63 AMG the AMG Performance Pack option.

We’ll find out at the L.A. Show.
