Mercedes prices SLS AMG Black Series and C63 Edition 507

Mon, 08 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz priced two of its hottest models last week, the 2014 SLS AMG Black Series and the C63 AMG Edition 507. The gullwing will come in at stratospheric $276,800. The more earthbound C63 sedan will sticker for $70,925, and the coupe is $73,452. The SLS goes on sale this August, the C63 in July.

The SLS Black Series made its debut last November at the Los Angeles Auto Show, blowing us away with a power to weight ratio of 5.81 pounds per horse. The standard SLS has 6.12 pounds for each horse to lug around.

The upgraded 6.2-liter V8 makes 622 hp at 7,400 rpm and 468 lb-ft of torque in the Black Series. Top speed is rated at 196 mph while 60 mph goes by in just 3.5 seconds. We drove the SLS AMG Black Series in March, and said that it was “arguably the most driver-focused Mercedes-Benz road car ever to see production.” Besides the Electric Drive version, it is the most powerful.

The C63 AMG Edition 507 arrives at dealership in July with its namesake output at 507 hp. Torque is rated at 450 lb-ft. The C63 also uses a 6.2-liter V8 -- don't laugh, the CL63 has a 5.5-liter -- with a seven-speed multiclutch transmission.

The Edition 507 gets bigger brakes than the standard C63, as well as more power (the standard C63 AMG makes 451 hp). Visually the 507 can be distinguished from the C63 with its black finish on the spoiler, exterior mirror housings, and surrounds on the grille and daytime running lights.
