Morgan Eva GT (2012) first official pictures

Mon, 16 Aug 2010

This is the Morgan Eva GT, a brand new sports car that the Malvern-based manufacturer will start building in 2012. Unveiled at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Eva GT is built around a variation of the aluminium chassis used in the Aero Supersports and is powered by a twin-turbo BMW straight six.

Not at all, as Morgan is already taking £5000 deposits and offering up all the information it has to encourage potential customers to put an order in. The underpinnings are a development of the bonded aluminium chassis from the Aero Supersports, while the voluptuous bodywork is aluminium too – the lightweight platform and body helps keep the kerbweight to just 1250kg.

Power comes courtesy of a BMW-sourced twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight six. The engine produces 302bhp and 295lb ft, and drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. And with the low weight, Morgan is currently reckoning on a 4.5 second run to 62mph, but also 40mpg and 200g/km.

That’s right, but above the rest of Morgan’s range. Morgan sees it as a ‘practical car’ that can be used everyday, with a big boot, plus two large doors allowing easy access to the two seats in the back. And to make it usable there’s power steering, ABS brakes and ESP, plus xenon lights, electric windows and airbags, and Morgan claims the Eva GT will meet the latest US and European safety standards.

If you fancy an Eva GT then Morgan will take a £5000 deposit off you now, with the promise of building your car from mid-2012. Expect prices to start north of £70k.
