New 2015 Ford Focus ST revealed – Diesel ST gets 182 bhp

Fri, 27 Jun 2014

The new Ford Focus ST arrives – and there’s a diesel version too.

Following a tease for the new Ford Focus ST earlier this week, Ford has now revealed the new ST – and the ST diesel – as Ford’s refreshed ST heads to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for its public debut today. Now available not only as a hatchback and estate, but with a petrol or diesel too, the 2015 ST gets lots of cosmetic teaks that match those the rest of the Focus range got recently.

But Ford has gone further with the ST, with changes under the skin designed to offer a more rewarding drive.

The suspension on the ST gets new springs and sportier shock absorbers, the electronic steering gets tweaked for quicker response, the ESP has been modified for better control in quick changes of direction and the torque vectoring has been updated for better torque distribution and agility. Ford has also re-engineered the engine mounts to improve front wheel traction.

Cosmetically, apart from the changes wrought to the Focus earlier this year, the ST also gets a lower and wide stance, side skirts and rear diffuser, a rear roof spoiler and twin hexagonal tail pipes.

Inside, Ford has tweaked the cabin for fewer buttons – although the pod on top of the dash remains – a new flat-bottomed sports steering wheel, Recaro sports seats, sports pedals, illuminated tread plates and satin chrome highlights.

The new diesel-engined ST gets a 2.0 litre TDCi with 182 bhp and 295lb/ft of torque which is enough to get the diesel ST to 62 mph in 8.1 seconds, on to a top speed of 135 mph and official economy of 64.2 mpg.

The carried-over 2.0 litre EcoBoost develops 274 bhp and 266 lb/ft of torque which can return 0-62 mph in 6.5 seconds and get to 154 mph with official economy of 41.5 mpg. It’s the best bet unless you’re a company car driver or do big mileage.

As before, there’s a choice if ST1, ST2 or ST3 trim levels, with the ST1 getting standard cloth interior, the ST2 part-leather and the ST3 with full leather, decent spec levels – including Ford’s new SYNC 2 – and options including Adaptive lighting, Cross Traffic ALert and Active City Stop.

The new Ford Focus ST will go on sale in theĀ Autumn with first deliveries expected in early 2015. Ford hasn’t come up with prices for the new ST yet, but they will be revealed before the ST goes on sale.
