The new Aston Martin Zagato tease

It’s hard not to feel a frisson of excitement at the prospect of the makers of the most beautiful cars in the world – Aston Martin – taking a new creation to our favourite car event – Villa d’Este.

Add to that delicious mixture the added ingredient of an Aston Martin by Zagato, and you have a recipe that will justify the trip to Lake Como all on its own. And that’s exactly what we’re getting in less than two weeks time – a brand new Aston Martin Zagato.

Aston Martin and Zagato have had a meeting of  mind and body more than once in the past. The first was the stunning Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato - exactly 50 years ago – and the last was the DB-AR1, which was the two-seater roadster with no roof built just for American sunshine States, and based on its tin-top sibling, the DB7 Zagato.

All those AM Zagatos were stunning, but the ugly child in between that was the V8 Vantage Zagato is probably best forgotten. Maybe it felt and looked right at the time, but it hasn’t aged at all well.

Still, the DB7 Zagato was very appealing so it’s entirely reasonable to expect the new AM Zagato to tick all the right boxes. What is even more appealing is that this is a proper collaboration between Aston Martin and Zagato and will be built if there is sufficient interest (which there will be).

And who will build the new Aston Martin Zagato? Almost certainly our old friends CPP in Coventry, of course.
