New BMW 4-series Gran Coupé: OFFICIAL

Sun, 02 Feb 2014

The BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe (pictured) has been officially revealed

The new BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe leaked out yesterday ahead of an official reveal by BMW, but that leak has prompted BMW to action and we get the official reveal today, probably sooner than BMW had intended. Looking like a shrunken 6-Series Gran Coupe – and visually similar to the 3-Series saloon too – the 4 Series Gran Coupe gets a liftback tailgate similar to the 3-Series Gran Turismo to differentiate the 4-Series Gran Coupe from the 3-Series saloon and add to its appeal.

The profile is more swoopy too with a short glasshouse, smaller frameless rear doors and comes in 14mm longer and wider – and 40mm lower – than the 3-Series, and gets the same chassis as the 4-Series Coupe with a wheelbase of 2810mm.

Engine and model choices at launch will be the 420i Gran Coupe 4281 , 435i, 418d , 420d and 420d xDrive – yes, a 4WD 4-Series Gran Coupe diesel – with a choice of SE, Sport, Modern, Luxury and M Sport trim levels.

The 2.0 litre diesel 418d Gran Coupe (which costs from £30,995) comes with 141bhp and the 420d (from £31,795) gets 181bhp, with the 430d and 435d arriving a little later using BMW’s 3.0 litre diesel with 255bhp and 309bhp respectively. The 435d will also get xDrive 4WD and an auto ‘box.

Petrol options will be the 435i Gran Coupe (from £41,155) with the 302bhp 3.0 litre petrol, good for 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds and official economy of 39.8mpg, the 428i (from £32,815) with 242bhp and the 420i with 181bhp.

The 4-Series Gran Coupe will get the same levels of standard equipment as the regular 4-Series Coupe and prices will be exactly the same too, starting at £29,420 for the 420i SE Gran Coupe rising to £41,655 for the 435i M Sport.

The BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe goes on sale in the UK on 21 June 2014.
