New BMW Z4 sDrive35is (2010 /2011) revealed. UPDATE: +Video

Sun, 13 Dec 2009

The BMW Z4 sDrive35is will debut at Detroit in January 2010

When the latest model BMW Z4 was revealed BMW made it clear that this time round there would be no Z4M. But that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any quick Z4s. Oh, no.

The current BMW Z4 sDrive35i is actually a very good car. It’s quick, it handles well and its turbo charged 3.0 litre in-line 6 is as creamy a lump as graces any BMW. So, short of a full-blown V8 or V10 Z4, what better place to start to make an even quicker Z4?

Due to be launched at the Detroit Motor Show in January, the new range-topping BMW Z4 sDrive35is builds on the already impressive Z4 sDrive35i by adding a higher flow intake and letting the turbos spin harder to deliver an extra 11% power and torque. Which means you get 335bhp and 332lb/ft of torque. In fact there’s an electronically controlled overboost function which will, for brief periods, boost the torque to 369lb/ft. Impressive figures, which endow the sDrive35is with the ability to sprint to 60mph in 4.7 seconds without any detriment to the fuel consumption figures of the standard sDrive35i.

To compliment the extra power in the sDrive35is BMW has lowered the suspension by 0.4″, added some of the M-Sport pack bits, revised the electronic power steering, fitted a dual-clutch ‘box as standard and added brake regeneration for a bit of ‘Eco’.

This may not be a Z4M, but it looks like it’s as close as we’re going to get. And that’s pretty close.

All the bumph in the BMW Z4 sDrive35is Press Release.
