New Citroen Grand C4 Picasso – launches January 2014

The New Citroen Grand C4 Picasso (pictured) launches in the UK January 2014

If a Citroen C4 Picasso just isn’t big enough to plant your brood in, Citroen has always had an answer in the shape of the 7-seat Citroen Grand C4 Picasso. And now there’s a new one.

Citroen has revealed the new Grand C4 Picasso early, ahead of an on sale date of January 2014 in the UK, which is even more capacious than the old Grand C4 and gets some styling changes to mark it out from its 5-seat sibling. That means a new nose with big chevron grill and LED lights at the front, LED lights at the back and a new roof bar design.

Inside gets better looking and bigger too, thanks to Citroen using a stretched version of the EMP2 platform that underpins the standard C4 Picasso and offers an extra 11cm in the wheelbase and a lower floor which uses a new composite to help save weight (the new Grand C4 is 110kg lighter than the old model).

The interior also looks better quality and less cluttered, with many functions moved to the two digital displays, a 7″ one for Nav and Audio and a 12″ one for driving data and aids.

Citroen has fitted a panoramic windscreen as standard across the Grand C4 range and higher spec models will also get a big glass sunroof to let in even more light, the middle row of seats are independent of each other and offer much easier access to the back row which, once lowered, offer 645 litres of stowage space.

Engines on offer are expected to mimic those on the C4 Picasso, but at launch it seems there will be the choice of just three diesels – the entry-level e-HDi 90 Airdream, the  e-HDi 115 and a BlueHDi 150 which promises to cut NOx by up to 90 per cent – of which we approve hugely.

We’ll no doubt get more details and prices – which should start the right side of £20,000 – ahead of the on sale date for the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso of January 2014.
