New Ford Mondeo gets 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine

Thu, 06 Sep 2012

Ford has revealed that the new 2013 Mondeo will come with the new 3 cylinder, 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine with 123bhp.

But ahead of that event Ford has revealed that the new Mondeo will come with the option of the new 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine from the Focus and facelifted Fiesta. Yes, a 1.0 litre Mondeo is upon us.

An unthinkable prospect just a few years ago, the new 123bhp version of Ford’s incredibly impressive 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine will also offer 125lb/ft of torque - handily over boosted to 147lb/ft when the new Ford rep-mobile is trying to ‘undertake’ – and emissions of 130g/km – crucial in Ford’s vital fleet market.

Rolf Deges, Mondeo programme engineer, said:

Both ingenuity and affordability are part of our ‘Go Further’ brand promise, and we believe that having been the first to produce a compact engine capable of meeting the expectations of CD-segment customers, we can now establish a new benchmark for engine down-sizing within this competitive sector.

It looks like the new 1.0 litre Mondeo (they surely won’t put that on the boot lid?) should offer better performance than the current 1.6 Ti-VCT entry-level Mondeo and with emissions up to 20 per cent lower.

More new on the Mondeo later today.
