The big news from Jaguar for the 2014 Geneva Motor Show is the arrival of a barnstorming XF Estate – the Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake – with its 542bhp supercharged V8. But also heading for Geneva is a more lowly XF that might not grab the headlines but will probably do more for Jaguar’s bottom line than the XFR-S – the new Jaguar XF R-Sport.

Available as an XF saloon or XF Sportbrake, the XF R-Sport is Jaguar’s take on stuff like BMW M Sport and Mercedes AMG Line (but without any power or suspension tweaks) and is aimed at owners and drivers who want the sporty looks of cars like the XFR but want it powered by something more prosaic.

So the XF R-Sport comes with more aggressive front bumper, side sills, rear spoiler, gloss black window surrounds and R-Sport badging on the side power vent, steering wheel and tread plates and aims to look like a properly powerful XF, despite the 17″ alloys on low rolling resistance tyres.

Inside the XF R-Sport gets suedecloth seats with contrast stitching and a choice of Dark Oak, Piano Black or carbon fibre trim.

It looks like Jaguar are offering the new R-Sport – which can be made more appealing by adding the Black Pack too – only with the 2.2 litre diesel in saloon or Sportbrake guise, but the option to have a more sporty-looking Jaguar will surely be extended to the 3.0 litre diesel as well as the XJ at some point.
