New Mazda6: Official

Tue, 28 Aug 2012

The 2013 Mazda 6 has been revealed ahead of a public debut at the Moscow Motor Show later this week.

We had the new Mazda6 revealed last month, but only in bits. But now, ahead of its first public outing in Moscow this week, Mazda has revealed details of their new Mondeo-size offering.

Sales of family sized cars from mainstream car makers are on the slide, but if there’s any justice the good-looking – and mechanically advanced – 2013 Mazda6 should see Mazda garnering new sales, despite a declining market.

Looking very much like the concept car on which it’s based – the Mazda Takeri, which debuted at Moscow in 2011 – the new Mazda6 uses Mazda’s Kodo design language to deliver a convincing and appealing car with great lines, a good looking cabin and the promise of much from its SkyActive technology.

The new Mazda6′s wheelbase  is 105mm longer than the current model and offers more space in the cabin, both in the back and front, a cabin that offers great design with soft-touch materials, gloss highlights and a BMW-style rotary knob to control functions.

Mazda hasn’t revealed which engines will be on offer, but the likelihood is that there will be a 163bhp petrol and a pair of power levels in the 2.2 litre diesel.

Once the new Mazda6 has bowed in at Moscow it’ll be off to the 2012 Paris Motor SHow where it will joined by the 2013 Mazda6 Estate. Then, we should get a clear idea of what powertrains Mazda are going to offer for Europe.
