New Mercedes ML63 AMG (2012) revealed ahead of LA Show

Just a five months on from the debut of the 2012 Mercedes M Class we now get the bonkers version revealed ahead of the 2011 Los Angeles Motor Show – the 202 Mercedes ML63 AMG.

Teased last week on Mercedes’ Facebook page, the new ML63 is exactly what we expected from the quickest SUV Mercedes has ever produced.

As expected the ML63 gets the new Mercedes twin-turbo 5.5 litre V8.In the ML63 it delivers 518bhp and 516lb/ft of torque enough, Mercedes say, to dispatch the 0-60mph sprint in a ridiculous 4.7 seconds and on to a limited 155mpoh top speed.

Not only is the 2012 ML63 quicker than the old ML63 thanks to the new 5.5 litre V8 with an extra 15 horses and 44lb/ft of torque,  it is also a lot more frugal, by as much as 33 per cent.

And if that amount of power isn’t enough for you Mercedes is offering an AMG Performance Pack for the ML63 which offers 550bhp and 560lb/ft of torque. That will only give you a tenth on your 0-60mph, but it will lift the restrictor too meaning top speed goes up to 174mph.

Power goes to all four wheels through Mercedes’ seven-speed AMG Speedshift Plus ‘box, which offers a choice of three modes and has a rev-matching downshift function.

Controlled Efficiency Mode (C) delivers a smooth, low-rev shift pattern and engages the ML63′s Stop-start function for maximum economy and comfort, whilst the Normal (M) and Sport (S) modes do what they say on the tin, disengage the stop-start and make the ML63 much more lively.

In design terms, you get the usual butch look with 20″ alloys, high performance brakes, big-mesh front grill and air intakes, full bodykit, Xenons and quad exhaust tail pipes.

Inside there is Designo Leather and new AMG instruments, together with illuminated sill plates and a new integrated colour monitor.

The 2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG will get its reveal later this week at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
