New Nissan Navara NP300 pick-up arrives

The glitzier new Nissan Navara pick-up (pictured) arrives

Double cab pick-ups are an odd creation, but they make a practical – and tax-efficient – option for users who need both a car and a pick-up, so the arrival of the new 2015 Nissan Navara pick-up matters to many. Styling on the new Navara isn’t dramatically different to the current model, but the 2015 Navara does look a bit more glitzy with its new chrome grill, chrome mirrors,  detail crease down the side, black B-pillars and some very non-utilitarian colour choices like Savannah Yellow.

Inside, Nissan has moved the Navara up a notch or two in quality and ergonomics with a high-res colour display, aluminium trim (well, trim that looks aluminium), decent seats and a new steering wheel.

Under the skin the new Navara gets a reworked chassis (still with leaf springs) to cope with plenty of punishment (although it doesn’t do much for ride quality) and an improved turning circle for better maneuverability.

Power comes from an updated version of the 2.5 litre diesel four-pot with either 161 bhp of 187bhp mated to either a standard six-speed manual or optional seven-speed auto.

Nissan are claiming improvements of up to 11 per cent in economy over the current Navara, which will mean something around mid-30s mpg on the official cycle or mid-twenties in the real world.

Andy Palmer, Nissan’s Chief Planning Officer, said:

Nissan pickups are often the lifeblood of their communities, and they need a broader range of abilities than almost any other vehicle. Engineering a good one isn’t easy, but with the NP300 Navara, we’ve added to our accumulated 80 years of Pickup know-how, more comfort, convenience and SUV-inspired features, in-order to build a great one.

The Nissan New NP300 Navara sets new benchmarks for performance, toughness, versatility and running costs; all the qualities that are critical for pickup users.

No news yet on when the new Navara will come to the UK, but when it does we’d expect it to start at around £18k (plus VAT).
