Nissan GT-R SpecV arrives

Thu, 08 Jan 2009

We did a review of the Nissan GT-R recently, and found it to be quite simply the most incredible car, especially considering its bargain price. So what could be better? Well, Nissan thinks it has it with the new Nissan GT-R SpecV, which launches in Japan in February.

The GT-R SpecV offers a slight increase in power (although, as we’ve said before, all the GT-Rs deliver varied output), a unique bodywork spec which, because of the extensive use of carbon fibre, drops the GT-R SpecV weight to 1650kg.

The engine gets a high gear boost controller, which adds extra oxygen in to the mix to give more torque in the mid to high range. The suspension gets a bit of a re-working, and the exhaust system is titanium coated. New Nismo wheels drop the unsprung weight, and carbon ceramic brakes make sure you stop as well as you go. And to dump a bit more weight the back seats are binned!

The SpecV is as close as you will get to a race spec GT-R for the road. But what about price? Well, Nissan hasn’t confirmed that the SpecV will actually be a UK Car, but it seems more than likely. Price will probably be at least £75k (and maybe more, considering the strength of the Yen), a 25% premium on the standard GT-R. Worth it? That’s pretty subjective, but even at £75k it’s a bargain basement supercar.
