Nissan creates a self-cleaning Note – and this one’s for real. (video)

The Nissan Note that cleans itself

The Sunday chore of cleaning the car is beloved (and loathed, in equal measure) by those who’d rather do it themselves than pay a man with a bucket, a sponge and a chamois  to oblige. But regular car washing – for anyone – could be a thing of the past thanks to a new nano-paint technology. The newly developed super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paint manages to repel water and oil, which means stuff like everyday dirt, mud and rain don’t have the chance to cling to the car’s paintwork.

The coating has been developed by UltraTech International and uses the brand name Ultra-Ever Dry, and Nissan is the first car maker to try it out on a car’s bodywork.

Nissan has painted a Note with the new formulation and will be testing it over the next few months at the Nissan Technology Centre Europe to see if it’s a potential after-market option.

Geraldine Ingham, Chief Marketing Manager for the Note, said:

The Nissan Note has been carefully engineered to take the stress out of customer driving and Nissan’s engineers are constantly thinking of new ways to make families’ lives easier.

We are committed to addressing everyday problems our customers face and will always consider testing exciting, cutting edge technology like this incredible coating application.

Let’s hope it works as well as it looks to on the video (below).

Note: It may seem similar, but this technology is for real, not like the April Fool self-cleaning car from Subaru last year.
