OFFICIAL: BMW M4 Concept

Fri, 16 Aug 2013

The BMW M4 Concept (pictured) has been revealed

The BMW M4 heading towards Pebble Beach this weekend (and pictured above) is billed by BMW as the M4 Concept, but it’s almost exactly what you’ll get when the M4 goes on sale in 2014. As this is a ‘Concept’ BMW don’t feel the need to fill in all the details, but there’s some stuff we can see and some stuff we pretty much know.

The stuff we can see includes the same CFRP roof the old M3 Coupe got (in this case titivated with BMW M colours) and CFRP for the splitter and diffuser.

The bonnet and grill get more aggressive, it looks like there’s carbon ceramic brakes (at least as an option), big new alloys, more air intakes, redesigned M gill, wider track at the back and a boot lip spoiler. Oh, and that gold paint job.

As for the stuff we can’t see but are pretty sure about, that includes the engine, where we expect the V8 in the old M3 to be replaced with a twin turbo straight six with as much as 450bhp offering an improvement in both performance and economy (at least on the official numbers) over the old M3 Coupe.

Friedrich Nitschke, BMW M’s President, said:

The BMW Concept M4 Coupe reflects the BMW M philosophy in ideal form: It combines motor racing genes and unrestricted everyday suitability in a highly emotional overall concept. For four generations, the BMW M3 has put motor racing on the road and the BMW Concept M4 Coupe consistently continues to pursue this fundamental idea

The production version of the M4 Coupe ( and M4 Cabriolet) are expected to debut at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show in January and arrive in BMW’s UK Showrooms by next spring. How much will the M4 costs? BMW aren’t saying, but you’d better budget for something over £60,000.
