One Lap of the Web: Cool classic concepts, Rat Pack Cadillacs and even more Vin Diesel

Mon, 22 Apr 2013

We spend a lot of time on the Internet -- pretty much whenever we're not driving, writing about or working on cars. Since there's more out there than we'd ever be able to cover, here's our daily digest of car stuff on the Web you may not otherwise have heard about.

-- Petrolicious brings us an awesome VWvortex forum thread packed with prototype photos, design proposals and concept sketches of everything from the Iso Grifo to the 1994 Mustang. See if you can guess which sketch led to which vehicle.

-- We've all heard of the “grandma car” -- the one a shady dealer swears a little old lady supposedly only ever drove between the church and the grocery store. We're willing to put our suspicions aside for this ex-granny, Rat Pack-era 1962 Cadillac Fleetwood hardtop sedan at Bring a Trailer. By any metric, it's a lot of car for $7,000.

-- On the opposite end of the automotive spectrum, Kelley Blue Book has compiled a list of the 10 best green cars of 2013. The hybrids and EVs that made the cut may not have the presence of that Fleetwood, but today is Earth Day so it's probably worth giving these green machines a nod.

-- Worried that you'll leave theaters after watching “Fast & Furious 6” full of the crushing doubt that comes from not knowing when you can expect another dose of over-the-top, Diesel-fueled automotive insanity? Never fear: The release date for the seventh installment of the series has been announced. It's July 11, 2014, so mark your calendars.

-- Finally, head over to Hooniverse, where Jim Brennan is trying to convince us that the Ford Maverick Grabber qualifies as a muscle car. Whether you agree or disagree, be sure to vote in the poll and join the discussion.
