Opel Monza concept

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

We brought you the first vague details of the Opel Monza concept last month, but now GM Europe has released more details and pictures of its Frankfurt motor show star.

The 4,690mm long Monza crosses coupĂ© with wagon to create a gull-winged shooting brake that's just 1,310mm high. Its layered, lightweight aesthetic is said to represent the brand's new language and also marks the return of Mark Adams to the European arm of GM.

"This is the next bold step along our journey into the future, but at the same time we show that we have established a consistent design in which people can build trust", says Adams, Head of Opel Design.

Its face is characterized by slim lamps that continue Opel's boomerang lamp signature, a floating spar that holds the badge and large C-shaped intakes either side. Its surfacing is glassy smooth, with blurred boundaries between glazing and body, punctuated by metallic highlights.

Inside the IP is a full-width LED projection display that uses 18 diodes to illuminate the dashboard. We're keen to see its rather complex graphics in relation to its wood surround and stark cabin on the show stand next month.
