Pagani Huayra – still on the missing list

Where's the Pagani Huayra gone?

Despite claims the first customer car has been delivered, the Pagani Huayra still hasn’t reached any customers, and won’t any time soon.

Last year we revealed that, despite a ‘US Debut’ being planned, the Pagani Huayra would not be able to meet US regulations to be sold as a road car in the States. We took some flack for suggesting that Pagani were unlikely to get the Huayra to the US for at least a couple of years, and we questioned why they had taken deposits on cars despite knowing this.

Back in November Pagani said its first customer Huayra was ready to be delivered, but as far as we can see that’s still not happened. And we’re starting to wonder just when the Pagani Huayra will actually get to customers. So we talked to a couple of people who have deposits on a Huayra (deposits that range from €50-300k Euros depending on whether it’s a dealer or direct order), and their stories are a bit worrying for Pagani customers.

One customer we spoke to – who has a car in the first ten on order – has now been told he can’t expect delivery until 2013. Which didn’t go down too well. Another customer phoned Pagani to find out when his car – which has a later build number – would be delivered, and he was told ‘When it arrives’. A request for the return of his deposit was declined.

It appears Pagani has taken deposits on around 40 Huayras and, as far as we can tell, not a single car has been delivered, and we’re not even sure a road-legal car has yet been produced. And without the bespoke Huayra production facility – which still hasn’t been built – we wonder how long it will take for customers near the end of that list of 40 or so to get their cars.

We don’t think Pagani can actually produce much more than a car a month – assuming they’ve cracked getting the Huayra road legal in Europe and the US – which means those near the end of the waiting list will be waiting until 2016 for their cars, with apparently no prospect of their deposit back.

It doesn’t look good for the Pagani Huayra.
