Peugeot 208 GTi: Official

Mon, 03 Sep 2012

Peugeot has reviewed the 208 GTi Concept from Geneva 2012 and turned it in to the production GTi. Debuts at Paris. On sale early 2013.

Revealed this morning ahead of a public debut at the Paris Motor Show in a few weeks time, the 208 GTi is the car Peugeot hopes will not just sell well, but also cast a performance glow on the rest of the new 208 range.

Looking, as far as we can see, exactly like the 208 GTi Concept – even down to the wheels – the production 208 GTi gets a 200bhp 1.6 litre turbo with a six-speed manual ’box, good for 0-62mph in under 7 seconds and 145g/km (which means just over 51mpg).

Peugeot has tweaked the steering on the 208 GTi for more weight and feedback and the suspension has been sorted for agility with the track wider by 10mm at the front and 20mm at the back.

Just like the concept, the bumpers, front and back, are bigger and butcher with a new grill on the nose with a gloss black and chrome chequered design, flared wheel arches, wider sills, red and chrome trim and a nod to the 205 GTi with a 208 GTi badge on each C -pillar.

Inside, the 208 GTi gets the sporty makeover with aluminium sill plates, satin chrome beads round the dials with LED backlights, Nappa Leather and cloth seats, red stitching, aluminium pedals and chrome gear knob.

Peugeot are staying tight-lipped about price on the 208 GTi, but it will arrive in the UK in Spring 2013 and cost from around £20k.

And, hopefully, will give Peugeot sales a real fillip.
