The Peugeot RD Concept - winning entry in a competition to design a car of the future.

[ad#ad-1]

No, its not a concept that’s likely to go on sale very soon, but it is in fact the winning entry in Peugeot’s competition to produce a futuristic car.

The competition was launched at last years Beijing Motor Show, and asked budding designers to ‘Imagine the Peugeot in the Worldwide Megalopolis of tomorrow’. Well, they certainly inspired designers around the world, with over 2,500 entries submitted, but the winner of the Peugeot RD Concept competition was one Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar, a 27 year old from Coumbia. Well done Carlos!

In Carlos’ world of the future, it would seem we will all be driving round in a single-seat, 3-wheel bubble car. To be fair, this design is a little more than that, as it tries to deliver the ride comfort of a saloon car with the handling and ‘leanability’ of a motorbike, which is I suppose why it compromises on three-wheels (2 on the bike, 4 on the car…!).

Of course, it couldn’t run on petrol (that wouldn’t be ‘Future’ enough) so it’s a full electric car. But shouldn’t it have been hydrogen-electric powered to be realistic? And how on earth we will all be able to drive individual vehicles even in the ‘Metropolis of the Future’ is beyond me. TARDIS technology, perhaps?

Still, it’s cleverly executed and conceived. I’m being picky on the detail, and it’s a damn site better than anything I could come up with.

What should we dub it? The C5 of the Future? Damned with faint praise. Sorry.
