Porsche 911 Carrera GTS - Video below

Porsche managed to add two new 911s to its range at the Paris Motor Show, which must now mean you have a choice of at least 147 911s when next you venture out to the local Porsche dealer. The 911 Speedster will be daft money, but the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS will be a little more sanely priced at £76,758 for the Coupe.

We actually got the reveal on the 911 GTS slightly ahead of the press days at Paris, but probably because that left more room for the 911 Speedster to shine at the show itself. But the GTS is an interesting car, not least because it is in effect the most powerful of the ‘Regular’ 911s.

We covered the reveal of the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS in the run-up to Paris, but as Porsche has kindly divvied up some VT of the GTS on the move - interspersed with bits from Paris – we thought it worth the view.

Just as a reminder, the GTS keeps the standard 3.8 litre flat-six, but gets an extra 23 horses to play with. Add a Sport Chrono Package Plus and a PDK ‘box and you’ll manage 62mph in 4.2 seconds. Apparently, you’ll also average 27.7mpg.

But if you do you average 27.7mpg should have saved a few bob and bought a VW. You’ve shouldn’t buy a Porsche – especially a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS – unless you’re going to drive it as it can be driven. And if you do, you’ll struggle to ever get better than 20mpg.

But that’s still ultra-economical compared to virtually anything else on the planet that could be considered a supercar. And your GTS won’t go wrong. And it sounds good – in a whiny, flat-six sort of way. And it won’t fall apart.

And it does look good.
