Upping the repertoire of current 991-generation 911 models to 16 (so far) this is the new Porsche 911 Targa.
The new Targa is inspired by the ’60s classic, as you’ll spot by its all-new roof arrangement (no glorified sunroof Targas any more).
The contrast-coloured roof-hoop returns, as does the dome-shaped wraparound rear window. There’s no heavy lifting required to go al fresco either – the targa section now stows behind the seats electrically (though Porsche hasn’t actually disclosed how yet), while the lack of roof rails should give a more open feel than the previous 997-gen Targa.
The design has certainly split the CAR office: what do you think of the way the 991 wears its Targa guise? Add your comments in the discussion area below.
Like the old 997 Targa, the new Targa is strictly all-wheel drive. Powertrains are shared with the 3.4-litre Carrera 4 and 3.8-litre Carrera 4S, as are the wide-body hips.
Both are marginally off the pace of the coupes to 62mph, but ahead of the fully-monty Cabriolets, which cost £650 more. Prices start at £86,281 and £96,316 respectively.
