Porsche Macan née Porsche Cajun

Thu, 16 Feb 2012

The Porsche Cajun is actually the Porsche Macan

Porsche has revealed that the new baby Cayenne will be called the Porsche Macan, not the nickname ‘Cajun’ used so far.

We’ve wondered for some time if the Porsche Cajun name would make production. After all, it was only a nickname attached to what will be a ‘Cayenne Junior’, although the ‘Peppery’ flavour made sense. But it’s not going to be Cajun but Porsche Macan.

Porsche say the Macan name is derived from the Indonesian word for Tiger and ‘combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics’. Which they hope describes the new baby Cayenne.

The Audi Q5-based Macan is being built in Leipzig and expected to start rolling out in 2013. That means we’ll probably see the first concept of the Macan by the Paris Motor SHow in September – if not before .

So what do you thin of Porsche Macan as a name? The Cayenne got blasted for being named after a pepper, so no doubt the Macan will get the same treatment.

But what should Porsche have called the Macan?
