Porsche's new museum opens 31/01/2009

Porsche’s new state-of-the-art museum, located next to Porsche HQ in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, and estimated to have cost €100 million to build, is now finished and ready to start taking visitors from 31/01/2009.

The Porsche museum is a stunning building, holding an equally stunning collection of cars, marking Porsche’s long history. But these are not dusty museum pieces. The cars are mostly in full working order, and are used for exhibitions and events throughout the world on a regular basis.

The new museum offers a complete time-line of Porsche’s past, with a multitude of  exhibitions chronicling the development of Porsche, and even includes a glass fronted workshop where visitors can see classic Porsches being restored.

This new Museum is a huge improvement on the old, archaic museum, and well worth a visit. That original museum held just 20 cars, whereas the new one, some 53,000 sq ft, holds four times as many, with the displays changing frequently.

And this isn’t some rip-off tourist attraction either. Cost of admission is just €8, and there is even parking available for another €2. Lots of facilities, and even the ability to host your own event in the stunning surroundings, make the Museum a distinctly good place to visit.

There’s even some half decent shopping nearby, so whilst you indulge your passion, ‘she (or he!) who must be obeyed’ can opt for a bit of retail therapy.
