Porsche Panamera and Cayenne recalled for turbo issues

Wed, 18 Jul 2012

Porsche is recalling certain 2011 and 2012 Panamera Turbo and Turbo S sedans and the Cayenne Turbo for a problem with the turbine wheel of the turbocharger.

A summary of the problem on the NHTSA site states that the wheel might fracture because of a casting defect. If that occurs, vehicle performance will be decreased and the turbine shaft might fracture, leading to more expensive repairs. It could also draw oil into the exhaust system, possibly causing a fire.

Porsche says it will notify owners this month, and dealers will replace the turbine wheels free of charge.

Concerned owners can contact Porsche at (800) 767-7243 or the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at (888) 327-4236.
