Range Rover LRX caught testing – Spy Photo +LRX Video

The first spy photos of the Range Rover LRX

There’s been a bit of a flurry of new coming from Land Rover just lately. Apart from the fact we had the 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV6 for review a couple of weeks ago, that is. And the Freelander 2 to play with last week.

Just a few days ago we had spy shots of the LR2 / Freelander 2 carrying a disguise which hid the facelift we’re expecting for 2011. Shortly before that we had news of the LR Range_e, a test-bed for Land Rover’s hybrid tech which will come in to play when Land Rover starts to roll out its next generation cars in 2012/2013, and we’ve had the surprising news that LR are going to produce a 2wd version of the new compact Land Rover, the Range Rover LRX.

And today, courtesy of Autoblog, we get the first spy photos of the Range Rover LRX we’ve had. The LRX has been around as a concept for quite a while, and we’ve been hoping to get some spy shots with the launch looming in just a few months. In fact, with less than six months to launch we were beginning to wonder if Land Rover had changed the looks of the LRX so much for production that no one had spotted it testing.

But they haven’t. Much to our surprise – and delight – the LRX seems to have moved forward intact. It has the seem coupe-like shape and still looks like a modern crossover take on a traditional Range Rover. whether some of the funky interior gets carried over we rather doubt, but this seems a lot closer to concept than the Range Rover Sport was to the original Stormer concept which first introduced it.

Looking very promising. Compare the spy photo at the top with the concept video below. Pretty close.
