Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE dropped in the UK

The entry-level Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE has been dropped in the UK

It’s not quite a year since the new Range Rover Sport arrived courtesy of James Bond in New York, and a lot less than that since it started appearing on the road. But if you’ve been saving hard to get yourself in the entry-level Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE – Land Rover’s £51,550 entry-level Sport – you need to think again. It’s been dropped.

We know Land Rover can’t keep up with demand for the new Range Rover Sport, so it seems they’ve desided to concentrate on the more expensive models – at least in the UK – with the entry-level SE spec being dropped and with it the lower-powered 258bhp 3.0 litre TDV6.

That now means the entry-level spec for the new Range Rover Sport is the £59,995 SDV6 HSE with the more powerful 292bhp SDV6 and better equipment levels.

And we do wonder how well the 4.4 litre TDV8 is doing in the new Sport too; it’s only marginally more powerful than the SDV6 (and that can be remedied with a quick tweak of the chip) but costs an extra £6.5k.

Will Land Rover drop this too, or will they instead make it more powerful and more able to compete with cars like the Porsche Cayenne S Diesel (which we’d love to see)?

It’s probably a sensible move from Land Rover to take the ‘cheap’ Sport out of the equation, but it is a shame you now can’t get a fuss-free Sport.
