Renault has released price and model detail for the Renault Wind

We’d expected the Renault Twingo CC for quite a while. What we actually got – at the Geneva Motor Show in February – was the Renault Wind CC. Same car – different name.

Renault have made it clear that they see the Wind as a niche car; something different and not just a CC version of the Twingo. And although it does have the Twingo’s nose – albeit with tweaks – the rest of the Wind is different enough – and the interior a bit more upmarket – to consider the Wind a model in its own right.

Engine choice is a peppy little 1.2 litre petrol with 100bhp and a 0-60mph of under 11 seconds and the 1.6 litre from the Twingo Renaultsport 133, which offers 128bhp and knocks two seconds off the 0-60mph time.

Trim choices are the Dynamique or Dynamique S, with a special edition kicking off sales – the Renault Wind Collection Limited Edition. The Wind Collection (I know, but we’re resisting) comes with either the 1.2 or 1.6 engine, gets electrically heated mirrors, black leather-faced heated seats, gloss black roof, red and chrome dash inserts, leather sport wheel and gearknob, alumi pedals, the required ‘Collection’ badges and double chrome roof cover cowls. Price starts at £17,300.

Orders in the UK kick off in May for the Wind Dynamique or Dynamique S, but you can hustle along to your local Renault dealer this month to place and order for the Renault Wind Collection. Renault are producing 200 to kick off the range and they will be delivered ahead of the rest.

Actually, the Wind does look fun and quirky, with decent levels of spec and that pivoting trick tin-top that goes from open to closed in just 12 seconds.
