Report: Fiat-Chrysler could cut Dodge

Thu, 13 Jun 2013

Fiat-Chrysler could move into 2016 without the Dodge brand, according to a report from Wards Automotive.

While the company has plans to integrate Fiat platforms into Chrysler, Ram and Jeep products, Wards reports that Dodge’s lineup is thinning. The midsize Dodge Avenger sedan will not be replaced when its production ends early next year, and two other Dodge products are expected to move to the Chrysler brand or be discontinued. This follows the decision to rebrand Dodge pickups under the Ram name in 2010.

Chrysler has considered cutting the Grand Caravan minivan and producing just the Town & Country as part of their plan to end duplication in production, while Wards also reports that the Journey crossover will share a platform with the Fiat Freemont in 2016.

Likely secure in the lineup is the Dodge Dart, which is already based on the Fiat-made Alfa Romeo Giulietta, and the Charger sedan that is Dodge’s best-selling car behind the Avenger.
