Ridemakerz and Toys “R” Us let you customize the Cars 2 gang

Wed, 04 May 2011

Starting May 15, lovers of Disney Pixar's Cars and Cars 2 will be able to customize their own versions of Tow Mater, Lightning McQueen and the gang at Toys “R” Us stores worldwide.

In an exclusive partnership with Ridemakerz and Disney, Toys “R” Us will be opening standalone Cars 2 customization shops in all of its stores. Toy-car customizers Ridemakerz previously partnered with Disney to create bespoke versions of the miniature vehicles for people visiting their few store locations or online shop. This line allows the masses to outfit their favorite Cars characters and introduces characters new to the movie franchise.

Fans will be able to purchase a starter kit with a set of stock tires and the body of their favorite Cars character, and then dress the body up with Hemi engines, side pipes, custom tires and wheels, spoilers and hood scoops that easily snap into place and can be swapped out. They can buy custom, deluxe, spy and racing kits packed with all manner of accessories.

“We've looked at the massive car-customization trend, and you see that same trend across retail. Whether it's your jeans, your backpacks, your shoes and now your toys,” said Larry Andreini from Ridemakerz. “What could be more fun than taking your favorite Cars characters and making them your own?”

Chip Foose of TLC's Overhaulin' acts as a consultant and spokesman for Ridemakerz and helped develop the specs for the Cars toys.

“I fell in love with the product because it reminded me of the way I was in my dad's shop as a kid,” Foose said. “When a mom or dad goes and builds this car with their kids, they are also building a memory--but without all the toxic chemicals.”

The Cars 2 toys will show up in the aisles of Toys “R” Us locations on May 15.
