Saab 9-3X - UK Price announced

We still don’t know what’s going to happen to Saab. According to recent reports, Fiat will take over Saab, but today there has been a denial of this by Saab’s boss, saying there are 10 suitors for Saab, none of whom are Fiat. We’ll have to wait and see.

But Saab are still pushing forward, and have today announced the UK Prices for the Saab 9-3X, which was announced at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

Saab has managed to bring the diesel model in at under £25k on the road, which makes it a very keen price point. But as we mentioned when the Saab 9-3X was announced at Geneva, this is a bit of a let-down as a car. It’s a 2WD version, which sort of takes away the point of a rugged crossover. But in marketing terms it does make sense to be able to say you can have a Saab 9-3X 1.9TTiD for £24,995.

But the proper 9-3X is the 2.0 litre XWD with the petrol engine. This does have full time 4WD (unlike the diesel), with a proper torque transfer device to split the drive between the axles, together with a limited slip diff. Ride height is raised by 35mm. The 2.0 litre turbo delivers a pretty good 210bhp with a 0-60mph of 8.2 seconds.

To be truthful, the majority of people will opt for the diesel. It’s cheaper and nore frugal and most drivers won’t get the benefits of the 4WD or need the performance of the 2.0 litre petrol turbo. All the 9-3X range come pretty well equipped and offers a good alternative to a big 4×4, or even the obvious contender, the Audi A4 AllRoad.
