Second group of BMW M parts available for 3- and 5-series

BMW revealed a second helping of M Performance Parts for non-M BMWs on Friday. Owners can upgrade both the 3- and 5-series at any Authorized BMW Center. The latest parts include chassis upgrades, aerodynamic enhancements and interior improvements.

Aerodynamic enhancements for the 3-series include the BMW M Performance front splitter, rocker panel “blades,” rear spoiler, rear diffuser, side stripes and rocker panel decals. Also, an M Sport Line retrofit kit is now available for vehicles not originally equipped with M Sport Line equipment.

For the 5-series, a rear diffuser is offered for 528i, 535i and 550i models, which will be joined by a new carbon-fiber front splitter in early 2013. The M Sport Line retrofit kit will also be offered on 5-series, beginning in 2013.

Inside the BMW 3-series, a stainless steel driver's footrest and stainless steel pedals are offered, along with BMW M Performance floor mats. The most impressive piece in the upgrade packages is BMW's latest generation electronic steering wheel. It has a flat bottom rim and is covered in Alcantara, which can also be specified for the parking brake boot. The wheel incorporates three separate information modes including Efficient Dynamics, which shows fuel-efficiency data, average speed and temperatures. The wheel also has a Sport Mode, which has a built-in stopwatch, G-force meter and temperature gauges, and Race Mode, which has the stopwatch, lap counters, reaction time display and more.

Only the non-electronic M Performance Steering Wheel is available for the 5-series; it has a flat bottom and a red index stripe at the 12 o'clock position. The middle-size Bimmer is also offered the option of carbon-fiber interior trim, and stainless steel pedals.

The BMW M Performance Suspension Kit is currently only offered on the 3-series. It includes new coil springs in M Performance Red paint, which lower the car almost an inch. M Performance Double-Spoke wheels are offered for both cars, with Pirelli P Zero tires. Brembo brake calipers and upgraded brake discs can be specified for the 3-series, and both the 3 and 5 can accept the upgraded M Performance Exhaust, which improves sound and performance, according to BMW.
