Singer Porsche 911 - now with Cosworth power

Singer, in case you thought otherwise, isn’t a sewing machine maker. Well, it is, but that’s not this particular Singer. This Singer makes glorious recreations of the 1970s Porsche 911, in beautifully crafted, exquisite detail.

THey’ve not made a lot of ‘new’ 911s, mind you. In fact so far there have been just two – a green one and an orange one – and they’ve just revealed their third car – the white Singer 911 in the photo gallery at the bottom.

But this is a franchise that has legs. This isn’t a botch up of an old icon to milk the wealthy, it’s a fabulous re-making with the finest materials, fit and finish you could imagine. So plans need to be made for going forward.

Part of those plans is to get Cosworth on board to produce the engines the Singer 911 needs. From now on Cosworth will provide Singer with three engines to drop in their 911 recreations - a 296bhp 3.6 for Touring models, a 375bhp 3.9 for the Sport and a 419bhp 4.0 for the Singer 911 Cup.

But it’s not just Cosworth expertise Singer Vehicle Design has brought in to make their 911 special, they’ve also enlisted the services of the Aria Group, makers of concepts and prototypes for car makers, who are going to craft and paint the carbon fibre clothing for the Singer 911.

They say that you should surround yourself in business with the best there is, and Singer seem to be doing all the right things with their take on a 1970s air-cooled 911. Rob Dickinson, founder of Singer, said:

We are thrilled to be involved with these incredible companies who together bring a wealth of heritage, intelligence and global engineering expertise to this labor of love. This is not just about re-imagining an icon; we’re working in a collaborative spirit of excellence to build something that celebrates Porsche’s genius and the air-cooled era of the world’s most important sports car: the Porsche 911.

The Singer Porsche 911 doesn’t come cheap – it costs from £120-180k depending on how daft you go – but for a car Rob Dickinson says Singer “… respectfully attempted to enhance every element … they are extravagant machines for sure and we aim to build them like Swiss timepieces.” it seems a bit of a bargain.

And the Singer 911 link with Cosworth gives us an excuse to publish the photos of the latest Singer Porsche 911, resplendent in White.
