The Skoda Fabia vRS on the floor at Geneva

Well, none of us are perfect and we’ll be the first to admit we’re far from it. But it’s a bit poor that in amongst all the Geneva news we managed to miss out a report on Skoda’s hot baby – the Skoda Fabia vRS - getting revealed. Slapped wrists all round.

The Skoda Fabia vRS is the Skoda version of the VW Polo GTI and gets the same 1.4 TSI supercharged turbo with a very accessible 178bhp. The supercharged little lump gets mated to VW’s seven-speed DSG ‘box and comes with an electronic diff (XDS), delivering cracking performance of 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds and a 140mph top speed. Despite the performance the Fabia vRS still returns 44mpg.

Visually the Fabi vRS gets a re-designed front bumper with integrated fogs and LEDs with a new back bumper complete with diffuser and dual exhaust. Throw in a set of 17″ lightweight alloy Gigaro wheels, red brake callipers, tinted windows and contrasting coloured roof and wheels in either black, white or silver and you have a proper stand-out pocket rocket.

The Skoda Fabia vRS is scheduled to go on sale in the UK in June (together with the Fabia vRS Estate) and will undercut the similarly powerful 2010 VW Polo GTI by up to £2k.

Which makes the Fabia vRS a real fun bargain.
