Skoda Rapid Sport concept (2013) first official pictures

Wed, 08 May 2013

Skoda is taking this Rapid Sport concept to the 2013 Wörthersee show. The cosmetically hotted-up Rapid is the latest VW Group car to get a modified version for the Wörthersee enthusiast’s show, though CAR hears the Rapid won’t get a production performance version.

What puts the ‘Sport’ into the Skoda Rapid Sport concept?

The two-tone red and silver concept car rides on 19in alloy wheels –16-inchers are the biggest rims you can get for the standard Rapid. The XXL wheels sit on a wider track, under exaggerated blistered wheelarches. The Rapid Sport gets xenon lights, a new front bumper with an integrated wide-mouth grille, and a large front splitter. At the rear there’s a wider bumper with two integrated tailpipes, and a carbonfibre lower section.

Inside there’s Recaro sports seats, and a more contoured sports steering wheel.

What powers the Skoda Rapid Sport?

Skoda has stayed tight-lipped on the Rapid Sport’s powertrain, but given there’s no hot Rapid vRS in the pipeline, it’s unlikely that the Rapid Sport concept is running an uprated engine. If you fancy a go-faster booted Skoda, you’ll have to wait for the new Octavia vRS due later in 2013. Set to develop 220bhp from its turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, it’s essentially a more spacious, less expensive and less obvious VW Golf GTI.

What other hotted-up VW Group cars will be at Wörthersee?

Seat will show off new Leon and Ibiza racing cars, while Audi has built the lightweight TT Ultra Quattro. VW has built a 493bhp Golf GTI hyper hatch – click here for the full story.
