The new Skoda Superb Estate teased ahead of a Frankfurt launch

Update 18/9/09: Skoda has now launched the Superb Estate – the Skoda Superb Combi – at Frankfurt.

The Skoda Superb Estate is something of a monster estate – aimed to compete with the big Volvo estates – and is likely to come with an engine – and trim level – to suit just about any need.

The Superb Estate doesn’t appear to have a longer wheelbase than its saloon sibling, but it does appear to be taller at the back, which augers well for the load capacity, which Skoda are quoted as saying is ‘Huge’. It doesn’t look like the Estate will get the split tailgate, but the rear seats will be modified to give a good load area when they’re down.

Engines are expected to include all those from the current Superb range – three petrols and three diesels – with five or six speed manuals as standard depending on the model. Also available is likely to be the VW DSG ‘box.

It also seems likely that Skoda will deliver a range-topping Superb Estate with four wheel drive, DSG and the 3.6 litre V6 from the Superb saloon to compete head-on with the top-end estates from Volvo and Audi.

No word on prices yet (hardly surprising when Skoda can’t even manage a decent picture) but we’d guess the Superb Estate will start out around £17.5k and head up well above £25k for the all-singing, all-dancing V6 4WD.
