SsangYong SIV-1 Concept heading for Geneva

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

Another new SsangYong Concept – the SsangYong SIV-1 – is heading for Geneva 2013 to join the new Rodius debut.

SsangYong are heading to the 2013 Geneva Motor Show with a new version of the Rodius, which we’re hoping (although not with too much confidence) will be a big improvement on the very challenging looks of the current car.

The hope that SsangYong will manage to deliver a Rodius that doesn’t frighten small children is boosted today with the first photos of a new concept from the Indian-owned Korean car maker – the SsangYong SIV-1 Concept (pictured above) – which will arrive at Geneva alongside the new Rodius.

From what we can see – and taking off what’s likely to be the difference between a tease rendering and the real car – the SIV-1 does look like it could be a Ssangyong that looks half decent.

SsangYong tell us that the SIV-1 (which stands for ‘Smart Interface Vehicle) is a mid-premium CUV that defines SsangYong’s new design philosophy. So there’s hope.

The design looks quite generic – although as SsangYong have gone their own way to date without much applause, that’s probably a good thing – has four individual seats and, at 4500mm long and 1880mm wide, is about the size of the new Hyundai Santa Fe (as wide but a couple of inches longer).

No doubt we’ll find out at Geneva if SsangYong has found a decent design direction.
