Striking new Kia concept for Frankfurt

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

It wouldn’t be a motor show without a wild and outlandish concept car from Kia and it looks like the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September will be no different.

Kia has announced details of the as yet unnamed concept that “hints at a possible future B-segment contender ready to take on the urban environment with style and tenacity”. It’s also said to be “playful but gutsy, sturdy yet impish” – so could it be a small crossover?

Specific details and a proper look at the car will come closer to its unveiling in Frankfurt, but Kia reckons it’s ready to accept “any challenge that the assured modern motorist may throw at it”. We’re hoping that’s not a literal claim, but again fits in with the crossover thinking.

Kia goes on to say that the concept is born out of a determination to “seek new compact-car options for the individualistic and demanding driver for whom size is an issue”. So we can expect a focus on interior space and practicality, a host of personalisation options and, as it’s being unveiled in Frankfurt, a distinct European flavour.

According to Kia there are no plans to put the vehicle into production and it’s merely a concept to gauge potential customer response for future models. So if you like what you (eventually) see, let Kia know.

To us, even from the teaser image, it looks like yet another striking and interesting Kia concept. The LED lights are a definite nod in the direction of the new Pro_Cee’d GT and Peter Schreyer’s ‘corporate face’ is clear to see.

It’s cleverly disguised, but we also strongly suspect the chunky outline hides a tall, SUV-aping stance – adding more fuel to the compact crossover fire.

Stay tuned to MSN Cars for more news from the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
