The Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C launches in Japan today

Subaru has today launched the Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C on to the Japanese market. Subaru are building just 900 Spec C cars which feature a number of improvements over the already available STI spec.

Subaru has dropped the weight – by an undisclosed amount – by fitting a smaller battery, aluminium bonnet and laminar glass at the front and sides. Lightweight 18″ alloys come as standard, but you can specify 17″ rims if you want. The rims get shod with Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tyres, which is supposed to improve grip and cornering. But you only get four – there is no spare so you get a repair kit instead.

Subaru has fiddled with the ECU on the Spec C and fitted new bearings on the turbo. They’ve also added inter-cooler water-spray and the limited slip diff. has gone mechanical. There are also changes to the fuel pump and suspension. The Spec C still puts out 305 bhp, but the tweaks have upped the torque to 311lb/ft. Oh, you also get gold-coloured Brembo calipers.

Colours are simple – Pure White or Sunrise Yellow. No word on price.
