The Rolls Royce Phantom gets a tweak

Mon, 16 Feb 2009

Ever since BMW bought Rolls Royce, the company has been on the up. First we got the Phantom, which showed the world just how special a Rolls Royce of the 21st century could be. The Phantom spawned the Drophead Coupe and more recently the Phantom Coupe. And waiting in the wings is the new ‘Baby’ Rolls Royce – The Silver Ghost (or just Ghost – who knows?

But it’s been getting on for six years since the Phantom entered the car world and, although last year saw record sales of the car, Rolls Royce has decided that it’s time to get a very mild facelift.

The Rolls Royce Phantom gets a very small nip and tuck for 2009

The most noticeable change, although hardly earth-shattering, is a new front bumper and a shallower grill to bring the Phantom in harmony with its siblings. The door handles get a neat set of LEDs, and there is now a choice of three styles of wheel, either painted or chrome.

The inside gets a little bit more techy (but all suitably low-key) with RCA connection for auxiliary audio and video input for the rear screens (which are of course neatly hidden in the picnic table). Throw in some new door cappings and reading lights and re-position a few knobs and switches and you’ve pretty much covered the update.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
