Top Gear Nissan LEAF & Peugeot iOn Electric car episode spoofed

It's James & Jeremy testing the iOn and LEAF

Yes, boys and girls, there is a new series of Top Gear looming, with the boys back on the box this month. And already a so far unseen episode is being lampooned. Very well.

Just last month we reported that May and Clarkson were filming a piece on electric cars – using the Nissan LEAF and the Peugeot iOn – and were busy running out of juice in Lincoln and searching for a way to plug in their electric cars.

Unsurprisingly, there was a whiff of a set-up, with Lincoln locals commenting that the recovery trucks that rescued the stricken electric cars had been parked up waiting for two hours before the LEAF and iOn ran out of electrickery right in front of them.

Of course, they may say that. We couldn’t possibly comment.

If that is the case, Top Gear may find themselves on the wrong end of a lawyers letter from Nissan and Peugeot, just as they did recently after Tesla festered for two years over a Top Gear episode where the Roadster also ran out of electrickery and finally sent in the lawyers.

At the root of all this is the useless nature of electric cars as everyday transport for anything other than urban environments. But you already know that. And the best way to demonstrate it is with an entertaining visual. Which is what Top Gear – a car-focused light entertainment show – does.

And we expect that both May and Clarkson will be mightily entertained by the antics of a couple of English guys who have put together a spoof of the Lincoln episode, with electric cars which are even less appealing than the LEAF and iOn.

It’s remarkably well done with some decent production values and spot-on characterisations.

But we wont spoil it for you…
