Toyota has revealed the Prius G Sports at the Tokyo Auto Salon

Yesterday we reported on the Toyota FT-86 G Sport Concept which offered tweaks to both bodywork and performance and is a sneak preview of a G Sports range of cars Toyota are planning on launching in Japan. The FT-86 we get. It looks quick and with a turbo added to its 2.0 litre 4 pot Boxer engine it should provide some fun.

But we really don’t see the point of a Toyota Prius getting the G Sports treatment to produce an even uglier car that doesn’t go any better than the arthritic Prius. But that’s what we see in the Toyota Prius G Sport Concept unveiled this week at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

The Prius G Sports gets a set of new bumpers and side skirts; LED running lights; a new exhaust and 18″ wheels that have apparently been fitted with high performance tyres. Why? The Prius G Sports gets the same 1.8 litre hybrid setup as the standard Prius, so what on earth is the point of sticking high performance tyres on it? And with the horrible CVT gearbox you’re hardly going to be able to use the throttle to drive the car and put any pressure on the tyres – assuming you could drag enough power out to even think about it.

Toyota have also had a play with the interior, sticking a set of Recaros in, Piano Black trim, ali pedals and a new information display. That’ll make it go quicker then.

Sorry, this is pointless.
