The 'Customised' Toyota iQ for Sports

Toyota claim the iQ is the world’s smallest 4 seater production car – and the may well be right. It is certainly a tiny car – but very cleverly packaged – and is in many ways the perfect city car, if a tad on the expensive side. So cleverly packaged is the iQ that Aston Martin have used it for the Cygnet, and rumour has it that BMW will use it for the i-setta range.

But Toyota obviously thinks the world considers the iQ to be a little boring. So they’ve had a play and come up with a couple of tarted and titivated iQs to show at Frankfurt.

The iQ Collection is more an interior makeover than anything else. Finished in White Pearl, the colour is carried over to the interior, with the centre console, door panels and instrument pod all finished in Pearl White. You even get leather upholstery – with a slightly odd brown and white pattern that looks a bit like a pair of curtains –  and a completely glazed roof to make the interior light and bright.

The iQ for Sports goes a bit further than the iQ Collection – a bit too far, really. It looks like its been dipped in an Essex wide-boy customisers party box, with spoilers, wheel arch extensions and 18″ alloys. The delightful green body colour carries over to the interior where it is complimented (!) by matt-black scuba-style polyurethene bolsters to the seats, swivelling spotlight, aluminium panels and a big infotainment LCD screen.

I can’t deny it shows you can ‘personalise’ the iQ. Whether you would want to is rather called in to question, particularly by the iQ for Sports.

Toyota would have done better sticking the Aston Martin Cygnet on the stand.
