VW bring Golf GTI and Polo Concepts to Wörthersee

VW has brought the Golf GTI & Polo Worthesee Concepts to the Worthersee Tour in Austria

The Wörthersee Tour is in full swing in Austria, and as we told you yesterday Audi has brought along the Audi Q5 Wörthersee Concept to show off, along with a handful of its latest models. But this is a VW as well as Audi show, so Volkswagen has gone one better and brought along a pair of  Concept Cars – The VW Golf GTI Wörthersee  Concept and the VW Polo Wörthersee  Concept.

The Golf GTI Concept, based on the new VW Golf GTI, comes in a dark Firespark Red and a set of mean looking black alloys. The interior gets a bit of customising as well, with Nappa leather with red contrast panels and white piping. The Golf gets its suspension lowered and comes with a sports exhaust. But this is a pure cosmetic mod in reality – no performance tweaks – save for the exhaust – are on offer, so performance is the same as the stock Golf GTI.

And what of the Polo? Weel, it looks like the Polo Wörthersee Concept is effectively a sneak preview of the next VW Polo GTI, due to arrive later this year. It comes in a lighter shade of red than the Golf – Flash Red – and some bold ‘Rally Stripes’ in black run up the bonnet. A set of black alloys – 18″ on the Polo – get polished spokes, and the interior gets the Nappa leather treatment. A similar Sports Exhaust System is fitted to the Polo as the Golf.

Both cars get the required commemorative sill plates and have an abundance of black gloss interior highlights (just like the new Scirocco R – must be VW’s new ‘Thing’).

We’re pretty sure the Wörthersee crowd will love these two offerings from VW. But we can’t help thinking VW missed a trick by doing nothing with the oily bits on the Golf and Polo. It would have been bice to see what extra they could have squeezed out of these Concept Cars.
