Vauxhall Astra & Astra Sports Tourer get BiTurbo diesel

Wed, 01 Aug 2012

Vauxhall has decided to bolt their BiTurbo diesel engine in to the Astra Hatch and the Astra Sports Tourer.

Vauxhall revealed last month that the Astra GTC was getting the frugal but lively 2.0 litre CDTi BiTurbo engine, offering a tempting combination of 53mpg official economy and sub 8 second 0-62mph performance.

With levels of economy unthinkable just a few years ago combined with performance a hot hatch would have been proud of, the BiTurbo Astra GTC is a clever combination.

Which explains why Vauxhall has decided to extend the reach of the BiTurbo by bolting it in to the regular Astra Hatch and Astra Sports Tourer, where it offers slightly better MPG than the GTC (55.4mpg) and with the same sub 8 second 0-62mph.

Both the BiTurbo Astra Hatch and Sports Tourer get the recent tweaks to the Astra range but also benefit from the extra goodies for the BiTurbo including 18″ alloys, twin tail pipes and a bit of a body kit.

The Vauxhall Astra BiTurbo costs from £24,095 and the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer BiTurbo from £25,110. Both models go on sale today, and for a daily driver both offer a good combination of economy, performance and practicality - especially the Sports Tourer.
